I recently got the opportunity to do commission for Transformations Australia.

What was I commissioned to make?

Xmas Pretties!
Currently around Perth there are precious parcels being delivered by Kellie Dobbie the Director of Transformations Australia.

I've been a bit busy..

I've always been a master of understanding things...I have.

And boy am I understating what I've been up to these last couple of weeks!

I'm not sure if its beginning to look a lot like Christmas..but all I know is that I wanna crack open the Pimms, spend time with my lovely and every suffering family and friends (without roping them into to helping me with some projects) while reading a good book in between that all.

In saying that I can pretty much say that I can do that come Christmas Eve. Until then I'll have to walk it off and get back on that donkey..I mean horse.

Surprises from Xmas Perth Upmarket & more

You gotta love best friends

I have a best friend.

She's awesome. Truly awesome.

Not only does she listen to me when I rant about things that are troubling me but she always helps me to try and find a solution ASAP.

Most recent crisis: Second sanding of over 300 items in one night.

I'm not gonna lie, I was dreading sanding all those items in one night as I knew if I kept a frantic pace I could complete the sanding in 6 hours without rest breaks.

So I begged, pleaded and bribed my BFF Danica to come over and help me sand (I should mention that I never thought she would EVER say Yes).

But she DID!

So rock on Thursday night, it involved a lot of sanding, a bottle of Rose, two servings of delicious choc mousse but we did it. We did it all.

It took us 3 hours to sand all the pretties. What would have been a trial for me turned out to be a fun experience with my best bud where we got to chat for 3 hours non stop. It involved a lot of laughs, a couple of highs and lows but in the end it averted another anxiety attack.

To end all I have to say is:

LULT Danica!

Baking..Baking..Baking

Everybody loves baking!!

The first batch of pretties were set for baking yesterday afternoon!

Whew!

First batch done now onto batch two and three!

So this week if you know me..know that I'll be out of action..

Glazing+Pretties = Me getting my game on!

Oh yea, watch this space for pics of the new x'mas decorations.

Yes, I've succumbed. But hey, if you can't beat em' beat em' at their own game!

The countdown has begun!

I'm not gonna lie, it's been a busy couple of weeks. And by busy I mean, creative and challenging. By challenging, I mean 'WHY IN THE WORLD IS THIS NOT WORKING!?!?...OKAY, PLAN B'.

I like Plan B's.

I like Plan B's so much that I'm now on Plan E.

That's right I've become realistic in regards to my expectations of what I would like to show and what is physically able to be done with Xmas Upmarket, Subi Upmarket, Freo Arts Bazaar and now Oxford st Markets all coinciding at the end of November and during December.

I'm a gal with a 'Can Do' Attitude. In fact, my 'Can Do' Attitude is so instilled in me that I will work like a minion until I get things done.

Speaking of minions..I'm off to do some sanding.

Oh and I'm excited, today was the last day that all the 2010 pretties were being made (green ware made that is). In saying that..I made a f**k tonne. I'll be sanding and glazing for long, long time.

- Lots and lots of tea.

To preempt any catty thoughts..Yes, there is a difference of picture quality. I've changed my method of taking pics of my pretties.

Round..round..here around..I get around!!

I've been here. I've been there. I've been every where...in Margaret River.

I escaped to Margaret River last Friday afternoon with my best bud Danica and spent four and a bit days of the most relaxing and fun periods of my life so far.

That's a big statement. I've never cowered away from big statements. The most important thing to add is that its a TRUE statement!

So while I was away going to numerous wine, cheese, olive and jam tasting (all the while eating some amazing food) I got some great news!

I've been accepted and participating in the Perth Xmas Upmarket (Sunday 28th November 2010) as well as the Perth Subi Upmarket (Thursday 2nd December).

More info will be posted closer to the Upmarket events.

September Perth Upmarket

I love being part of the Perth Upmarket. It really gives me a chance to interact with all the previous and new buyers of my pretties.

Here are a couple of pics of my set up at the September Upmarket day. They are slightly blurry as I was in a hurry to take the shots before people started coming by.

Timeline of a pretty

As promised here are the stages of my pretties being made. Enjoy!

My diamonds..I mean brooches in the rough. Pre-sanding, post drying.

First sanding - CHECK!! Now these babies are off to their first firing.

Second sanding - CHECK!! Rinsed, dried and ready to be glazed up.


My pretties all in a row (kind of), in the process of being loaded up into the kiln to be high fired!

Finito! Assembled and ready to rock someones world!

P.S The edging of the brooch backs were an experiment I was conducting.

FYI - I choose the edge on the right.

Long time no blog..but I can explain!!

So I've been a bit lax in my blogging..I can totally explain!

First, there was the assembling of pretties for the September Upmarket, then the September Upmarket and now the shooting of pretties for the online shop. Oh! And throw in 2 weeks of illness and that's whats been happening!

SO! In saying that I'm glad to say that I'm 50% done in getting the online shop set up!

AND...The new designs for the summer collection are done and with prototypes on their way to being made.

Get excited, a new style of brooch, rings and necklaces are to be released soon...

FYI - check back in the next couple of days for some great posts to come.

What do you bake on a Sunday?

Some people bake muffins. Others bake roasts.

I baked my pretties!!!

As in set all my new pretties for a gloss firing on Sunday.

That's right, after 7 and a half hours of glazing my pretties are halfway through a high fire at the moment!!

Hopefully I can pick them up on Wednesday if they've cooled down enough.

Good news & Bad news

The good news is that the home wares range is on the precipice of being released.

Say what!? Well why should prettiness just be worn? Why can't we live with it in our homes and surroundings?!

Now for the bad news - the functional line has hit a snag..a bit one. The slip I was using to cast is super faulty (as in for every 8 pieces that I cast one 1 would be perfect). FYI - those are good odds. NOT.AT.ALL!!

So after a call to my clay lady I've been advised that the batch of slip I (and others) have is faulty and that a replacement batch is winging its way to Perth. But there's not enough time to be able to cast, create and be done by the September Perth Upmarket.

What did you do tonight?

This is what I got up to. Now don't think that I'm a whiz at Photoshop or Illustrator.

I'm not.

I've had a lot of help along the way from the awesomely talented Shu Daniels who is a true whiz at all things Photoshop.

So, I'm having to submit a web banner I've laboured to put this together.

I'm not going to give the actual time it took me to 'put' this together...but I'm just say this - it took me more than an hour.

I'm back!

Arrived back from Bali on Sunday night and have now settled back into life and its usual routine. I can't believe how quickly I adjusted to being away and settling back into life back home.

It feels like a distant memory...even though it was only a reality a couple of days ago.

The good news is that I did find something ceramic on my journey through Bali (however brief it was), the bad news is that I didn't find a lot of ceramic related stuff in Bali. BUT the emphasis on the wood industry was unfathomable! There was so much stuff I wanted to buy and would have if it wouldn't have been a trial to get through Customs.

Oh well, there's always next time!

What do you keep by your bedside?

I don't know!

What do I keep beside my bedside? Brooches of course!

Well I do anyway. I've been doing a major clean up in the midst of packing for Bali. A quick getaway has gotten me enthused about the mundane things in life...like cleaning ones room.

Anyway!

Your probably thinking "Seriously, does she really keep a BOWL full of brooches? Does she even wear ALL of those brooches?!"

Yes. Yes I do. I may go through stages of favouring one or two brooches more than others but I'm a firm believer in the belief that all my chosen pretties were created beautifully and deserve a turn to shine!

Test Tiles

Test tiles for my hot fuchsia and pimpin' purple.

Sure they aren't traditional test tiles, but who ever said I was conventional? Certainly not me.

The whole point of glaze testing (for me) with this range, is to see how the colour looks and glaze reacts when confined within a small space.

One day I'll move towards traditional test tiles. But that days not coming for a while!

Guess who's going to be at the September Upmarket?!

That's right, ME!

Its going to be great! I'll be having a bigger space this time round and releasing the new ceramic functional line!

So I've been busy this past weekend and will be for the coming week during my spare time to try and create the elusive hot fuschia, a pimpin' purple and a cool green.
